TEHRAN/WASHINGTON: Iran has denied that it is currently engaged in negotiations with the United States, responding to comments by US President Donald Trump, who said new talks were set to begin after Gulf leaders urged him to postpone planned military action.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, there are no active discussions with Washington at this time. Officials said Tehran is instead working with Oman on proposals related to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, though they stressed that broader regional conditions remain unchanged.
Trump Says Gulf Leaders Encouraged Diplomacy
President Trump said he had considered authorizing a major military operation against Iran but decided to delay it after consultations with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. According to Trump, Gulf leaders favored diplomacy over further military escalation.
Focus Remains on Strait of Hormuz
Trump also expressed hope that diplomatic efforts could help improve maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. Iranian officials, however, rejected suggestions that Tehran had requested a pause in military action.
