RIYADH, Saturday, October 3, 2026 — A Houthi-launched projectile struck a school in the southern Saudi border city of Najran on Friday, causing material damage to the building, while falling debris from an intercepted ballistic missile injured a resident in the kingdom’s Asir region early on Saturday, Saudi authorities said.

School hit in Najran

Saudi Civil Defence teams in Najran responded after a “hostile projectile” launched by the Houthi militia hit a school in the city, causing material damage to the facility, a spokesman for the directorate said, according to the official Saudi Press Agency. Emergency crews attended the scene immediately after the impact, and standard safety procedures were carried out at the site. No casualties were initially reported from the school strike, though vehicles nearby were also damaged.

Resident injured by falling debris in Asir

In a further incident reported on Saturday, fragments from a ballistic missile intercepted over the Asir region fell on the Ahad Rafidah governorate, injuring an Asian resident and damaging a prayer room and a number of parked vehicles, Saudi Civil Defence said. The falling metal fragments pierced the ceiling of the prayer hall and left debris scattered across prayer rugs, according to images released by the authorities. Civil Defence teams inspected the damaged structures and carried out safety measures at the scene.

Coalition intercepts three missiles and four drones

The attacks came amid a fresh wave of cross-border launches from Yemen. The Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen said its air defences intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said one missile was intercepted at around 3am after two others targeting the same area had already been destroyed, and four Houthi drones were also intercepted during the wave.

The coalition said it would continue taking operational measures to deter the militant group.

Escalation on the Saudi-Yemen border

The incidents follow a string of attacks on southern Saudi Arabia. On Thursday, Saudi authorities said two ballistic missiles were intercepted over Khamis Mushait and Jazan, while four drones were brought down over Khamis Mushait, with debris from one intercepted missile damaging buildings and vehicles.

The Houthis, for their part, claimed on Friday that Saudi forces had launched 94 strikes against areas under their control in Yemen over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of Saudi strikes since the renewed fighting began to 1,350. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognised government since March 2015.
